Westminster Presbyterian Church:
Who We Are

Since 1946 when Francis Schaeffer came to Gainesville to help organize a new Presbyterian church, Westminster Presbyterian Church's purpose has been to fulfill both the great commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the great commission (Matthew 28:19-20). At WPC we reach our purpose by proclaiming the good news of salvation in Christ Jesus to the world through outreach, worship, education and fellowship. In missions outreach we dedicate 10% of our annual budget to support both local and foreign missions. We are excited when we see God's kingdom growing through the efforts of local missions such as ABBA and through the efforts of foreign missionaries.

We believe that God created man to bring glory to Himself and so during each worship service we focus on the character and nature of God in all aspects of our worship from the singing of the choir, to the prayers of the congregation, to meeting with God in hearing His spoken word. Our motto in worship is "Soli Deo Gloria" (to God alone be the Glory). Paul told Timothy that God's word is "useful for teaching. so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." Therefore, our education program is centered on teaching the Bible.

Love for each other is abundant at WPC and is quite evident when we often gather for special times of fellowship. From our quarterly after church luncheon, to our Valentine's banquets, to our fish fries, to youth campouts, etc. we are all aware that we are a part of God's family and a part of the family at WPC.
